NutriGold Krill Oil Gold Max - 60 SoftgelsPhospholipid-Bound Omega-3s From Neptune Krill Oil

Krill are shrimp-like crustaceans that live in large schools. Although they are small, krill form a large part of the base of the aquatic food chain, providing important nutrients to fish, squid, penguins, and whales. Euphausia superba is the species of krill found in Antarctic waters and is a rich source of phospholipid-bound omega-3 fatty acids.

The omega-3 fatty acids in krill oil are absorbed and carried to the body’s cells in phospholipid form. Because phospholipids serve as the structural basis of cell membranes, omega-3 fatty acids in phospholipid form are easily recognized, absorbed, and utilized by the body. Krill oil is more sustainable and 2.5 times more bioavailable than fish oil. Because it requires a lower dosage than fish oil and contains naturally-occuring astaxantin, krill oil is also a much better value than fish oil.

Yearly fishing quotas for krill are established by the Commission for the Conservation of Antarctic Marine Living Resources (CCAMLR). The total biomass of this species ranges from 420 million to 700 million metric tons. In recent years, a 2.07% quota has been authorized, but usually less than 1.50% of the total krill biomass is harvested annually.

Neptune Biosciences has earned Friend of the Sea certification for sustainable krill harvesting standards. Friend of the Sea is an international organization that audits fishing vessels and ensures that international guidelines are respected.
